More than a systematized technique, it is an attitude that is present throughout the entire research process. It simply consists of not letting details escape, even if they may seem insignificant, which can appear at any time, be it in meetings, workshops, informal contacts… It is convenient to take some simple notes related to the place, the people, the facts and the circumstances observed and it is also convenient to collect verbatim phrases on the subject or the territory heard in any circumstance. All these annotations, added to the results of the interviews and the previous collection of data and information, complement, in a very enriching way, the general vision of the social reality that we are knowing.

  • It is convenient to make a summary of the content of the materials that we obtain from the field work (informal conversations, reports and minutes of meetings, notes from the participant observation, etc.), because it will help us when we have to carry out the analysis. But we must always keep the phrases "as is" and the written testimonials so as not to take away their expressive force. (See also at the end what refers to the Operational Report).
